Nokia's New Flagship Product

In the midst of our "look ahead" to Nokia's results in the ongoing second quarter, we mentioned Nokia's new N97 high-end smartphone.  We also cited an All Things Digital interview with Nokia's CEO that made a connection between the company's inability to find a U.S. carrier to promote (i.e., subsidize sales of) its new "flagship" product and Nokia's overall difficulties in the U.S. market.

Today, 2 June, Nokia announced the beginning of N97 sales in more than 75 countries.  Nokia hopes the N97 (catchy name, huh?) will become a rival for Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone

The New York Times reports that the N97 "costs about $776 without a subsidy from a service provider."

Full disclosure: Long NOK at time of writing.
